PREFACE

Truth outlasts us all, at least so far. We live in a time when it is under attack from all sides, difficult to sort out, with ethic’s failures we are bleeding. Propogandists, 24/7 news, political aspirants are only the beginning, the importance of issues regarding truth starts with us. We are experiencing a pandemic virus of the spirit,  an assault on the very core of our being. These matters threaten our form of government, our ethics and our morality.

But this crisis is not without precedent, lies and cheats have been ever thus. It is important we recognize truth as interpretive. In context your definition and application of it  may well be different than mine. Are axioms reliable, self-evident truths, statements of where to begin and end, starting points for reasoning and logic? How can we know any single truth, not in our brain but ultimately our hearts. As an artist I am convinced reason and logic only take us so far. Last stop is our soul.

This is a book of notes to myself. I call them jottings, accumulated thoughts on the subject of truth that include questions of the sustainability of democracy in today’s contentious world and matters of deniability. Witnessing assaults on fundamental social infrastructure and repeated evidence of the costs of lies from all sides, I decided it was time for me to find a touchstone, investigate, trust but verify. I wish to understand more completely what truth is. What has happened to it, has truth become obsolete, who cares and what has that done to us.

What you have here is an FYI. Truth has a price tag with obligations and use instructions: Next time trust but verify.

I intend to describe not prescribe, but that is perhaps unrealistic. Endless information sources beset us; discriminating seems well advised, being critical of what we read and hear is subject to everyday consideration. Cause and effect, short and long-term mindfulness  the many forms motivation for profit.

Finally, there are personal opinions and repetitions. This is what happens when we make notes to ourselves, especially over long periods of time. I often remind myself of truth’s burdens and abuse, so please forgive and bear with me as you, on your own terms, now think about truth and its importance.

Joseph Kinnebrew’s daughter has said her father is the master of the long answer. For years he has been known to write lengthy artist statements for shows of his paintings, sculpture, commissioned works, various catalogues and exhibitions.

A recognized prodigious thinker, his spelling is terrible but he started writing books at the age of 70.

Whether fiction or nonfiction, most of his books have an underlying message. Interviewers often comment on the impressive range of interests he brings to virtually all his work. A particularly well-known critic has written: “A wide-ranging discussion with Kinnebrew (there is no other kind) will likely visit the fields of ethics, anthropology, physics, theology, industrial design, and of course art.”

Kinnebrew is known as “A Person Of Curiosity.”

About the Author

Joseph Kinnebrew is an internationally recognized painter and sculptor, writer, inventor, and developer of ideas. He has written books often with abrupt wit and provocation. For over sixty years he has been recognized as an unusually creative person and on occasion the subject of studies wherein researchers referred to him as an “exceptional creative genius.” Witty and stimulating, he continues as a gifted mentor who prods, pokes, and promotes new thoughts from the lofty aeries of his adventuresome queries. Always the artist he challenges assumptions, coddles, and encourages rule breaking and our acceptance of axiomatic dictums. For the boy who would become a quintessential agent provocateur, it started early. At 80 Kinnebrew now lives with his partner Siri Struble in the Pacific Northwest, thinking, creating, and gardening. They live together pursuing new and unlikely possibilities. Such is the mind and life of a true surrealist who was once and is still a never forgetting little boy.

DIVA

Reviews: https://www.booksidepress.com/diva-reviewed-by-mari-carlson-usrb/ Diva | Reviewed by: Mari Carlson, US Review of Books

Page link to more about this book

Diva is a cautionary tale. A woman living on the surface, a taker wandering in the moment. Like many of her friends, Diva is a wannabe diva among wannabe divas. Not enough of them to swarm but enough to harm if you get too close, and yes, there are male versions, but this is a digression. Diva and her friend’s reality is most likely not like yours, not like presumed normal people.

Sociopaths are, by degree, malevolent parasites sucking life blood from us all. Diva is a sociopath!

Lives lost to extremism and damnation.

This is a story with precedent. Reflections of real people whose prejudices, wealth, influence, and regardless of social status corruptions of the soul that damage us all.

A genuine deviant this diva is not alone, you read about them every day. The beautiful people are out there pleasuring themselves behind façades of prominence and deception.  Diva destroys people. “Her” world is focused on excessive materialism, duplicity, sex and finally, violence in the extreme. Wicked, indulgent, and self-centered, she is cunning and amoral.

For some there is final retribution, for others there is redemption.

The Orchard

The Orchard is a powerful contemporary novel. It is a message, a parable using exemplars and provocative metaphors. It begins with a book club, an audacious experiment, and allegations that justice is often corrupt and imprisonment a failure.

REVIEWS:

This is a profound book. and not for the faint of heart. Joseph Kinnebrew is a deep thinker has created a masterpiece for moral debate and further consideration. Kinnebrew has crafted a surreal tale using metaphors woven together as only a consumate artist can. This book and ideas of the four concepts of faith, forgivness, redemption and resurrection of will remain in my mind for some time to come.

Others would do well to read this very important book.

Litle Boys Big Dreams

and the Hobo Wars

              A Memoir

Page link to more about this book

1948 age 6, 7, and nearly 8. Little boys growing, growing, growing and another older/young man who has an unexpected profound influence on them all. Little boys becoming big boys then men at perhaps the most tender and charming time in their lives. Learning lessons about life, inventing, and building to go forward with courage, purpose, and honor. These are ways that admirable men become admirable. Their adventures are funny and yet looking further, they are profound and after the years of innocence have faded, have much to say about the behavior of us later in life.

Little boys are charmers in these early years, the values they will live with are developed in just these short early times. How they will act, behave, lead, or follow in large part comes early. In many ways little boys, in their hearts, are always little boys and some better for it.

This book will make you smile, laugh, surely remind, and stir emotions. Tears for the poignant, the joy and tenderness of youth. Making you wonder how, when we grew older, it is that we have become who we are. This is a story of sweet remembrance.
